PROTECT-CHILD Project Webinars

Federated Computing in the Context of the European Health Data Space (EHDS)

🖥️  The webinar is divided into two parts: 1) The first part focuses on an analysis of the requirements that a federated analytics/learning protocol must meet to be compliant with the EHDS; 2) The second part features a demo of the Vantage6 system, with particular attention to the points of alignment and the gaps in relation to this proposed protocol.

The OMOP-CDM and OMOP-on-FHIR

🖥️  In this webinar, we provide an overview of the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) and its increasing relevance in establishing a harmonized, large-scale, standardized health data infrastructure.

The talk first introduces the OMOP CDM origins with the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) community, highlighting why harmonized data structures and vocabularies are critical for reproducible, multi-institutional research. The talk then provides context on the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard, followed by an overview of OMOP-on-FHIR, which connects the research-focused OMOP CDM with the FHIR clinical interoperability framework.

Finally, we present a past implementation and validation effort to demonstrate how OMOP-on-FHIR can be applied in practice.

Disclaimer: The OMOP-on-FHIR platform itself was developed and maintained in part by the Georgia Tech Research Institute. The presentation focuses on summarizing its relevance, demonstrating a prior implementation, and sharing validation insights.

ELSI Seminar on NIS2 and Secure Processing Environments in EHDS

🖥️  Dr. Francesca Tassinari (UPV/EHU) discusses how NIS2 intersects with the European Health Data Space (EHDS) through secure processing environments, focusing on risk management, reporting, and practical implications for secondary use of sensitive health data.

👤 Presented by: Dr. Francesca Tassinari, Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Research Fellow, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). PhD in international and EU law, University of Granada (UGR) and University of Ferrara (UNIFE).
